Stained Glass Classes at the General Denver

The General Denver Hotel recently announced starting Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m., local area artist John W. Schum will present Introduction to Stained Glass, a comprehensive instructional focusing on increasing and improving the students own innate artistic abilities.

Fee for the first series of classes is $90 and includes all of the materials and supplies necessary to complete two projects. Participants meet at the General Denver Hotel every Tuesday evening for seven weeks. Upon completion, the studentswill be able to participate in the Intermediate Stained Glass Instructional, and then a series of tutorial sessions in advanced stained glass and beveled crystal window design and assembly techniques. Reservations must be submitted as soon as possible to the General Denver Hotel. Schum has indicated that he also had classes on Saturday.

John W. Schum, a Wilmington resident and member of the Wilmington-Clinton County Chamber of Commerce. He specializes in design and fabrication of stained glass and beveled crystal windows. He is proficient in lead, zinc, brass, steel and copper came construction techniques, as well as the design and fabrication of “Tiffany” style windows and other works of art. Examples of his work have been exhibited at numerous juried art shows, the Kremp Fine Art Gallery at Vincennes University, several churches including the newly renovated Youth Fellowship Hall at the Wilmington United Methodist Church, the new Mediterranean Restaurant across from the Clinton County CourtHouse, and in many other prestigious homes and businesses both locally and overseas.

Schum told how he creates his pieces, beginning by designing and tracing patterns and cutting pieces much as you would for quilting. Kay Barrere, president, conducted the business meeting. The hostesses served a colorful dessert and cookies, all in stained glass colors.
